How the energy system really works

No perpetual motion, no marketing magic. Here's the honest engineering behind the hybrid bicycle's battery, motor, and rear‑hub energy‑recovery layer.

Inside the rear hub

A generator layer of coils & magnets

Permanent magnets sit on the rotating wheel; copper coils are fixed to the hub axle. When the wheel spins relative to the coils, it can either drive the wheel (motor) or generate electricity (generator) — the same hardware, two directions.

  • Magnets ride on the wheel side, spinning with it.
  • Coils are fixed; a moving magnetic field induces current.
  • A rectifier/regulator turns that into clean charge for the battery.

Energy management

Three real ways energy moves

Every arrow below obeys physics. Energy is recovered or converted — never created.

Drive: the battery powers the motor to assist your pedalling — effortless on hills and in traffic.

Recover (regen): when you brake or coast downhill, the motor becomes a generator and returns some energy to the battery — energy that would otherwise be lost as brake heat. Typically +10–15% range in stop‑go city riding.

Recharge on demand: if the battery gets low on a long trip, the petrol engine can spin the generator to recharge it. This uses fuel — it's a range extender, not free energy.
